There is a special bond between a Mother and her daughter. My Mother passed away some years ago, but my memories of her remain very strong.
Tea time Memories – oil on canvas 400mm x 500mm
My client wanted something to honour her late mother and their special bond. She didn’t really want a portrait. While we were talking she mentioned a special treat they often shared – they would go to their favourite cafe and enjoy Dutch Poffetjies and tea. Then she spoke about her mother’s favourite teacup which she had kept.
The idea for a painting was born – a still life with the teacup, her Mother’s teapot and a plate of delicious Poffetjies. And the bonus for me – well, a couple of visits to the cafe for Poffertjies – in the name of research of course.
